Entrepreneurship for Kids: Building Your Child's Founder Mindset

Entrepreneurship for Kids: Building Your Child's Founder Mindset

Entrepreneurship for kids is not about starting a company early — it is a mindset built through practice. See the nine skills your child learns, ages 3 to 12, at CURIOOkids Sheikh Zayed.

Entrepreneurship for kids does not mean your ten-year-old opens a company. It means something simpler and far deeper: that they get used to seeing a problem as an opportunity, and that they hold the tools to turn an idea in their head into something real they can present and defend in front of others. That mindset is exactly what separates a child who waits for instructions from a child who builds the solution. 💡

🎯 What does "entrepreneurship" mean for a primary-school child?

Most of what a child practises during the school day is arriving at the one correct answer. Entrepreneurship trains something entirely different: that more than one solution exists, and that the best solution is the one that gets tested, adjusted, and tested again. We do not teach miniature business administration — we teach the design thinking process that carries an idea from development through to execution.

Observe and question
Learns to spot a real problem around them instead of waiting for a ready-made question.
Imagine and generate
Produces several ideas for a commercial or social venture rather than clinging to one.
Build and test
Turns the idea into a prototype or early product that can actually be tried.
Present and persuade
Stands in front of a group, explains the idea with confidence, and takes feedback.

🧩 The nine skills the programme builds

The CURIOOkids entrepreneurship curriculum is built on nine strands that scale with the child's age, from 3 to 12:

  1. Design thinking: a deep understanding of how an idea becomes a product.
  2. Idea generation: new ideas for start-ups, businesses, or social ventures.
  3. Financial awareness: first concepts of value, cost, saving, and profit.
  4. E-commerce: how a product reaches people in a digital world.
  5. Product conception and development: from first sketch to testable prototype.
  6. Problem solving: breaking a large problem into workable steps.
  7. Brand building: the name, identity, and message that set an idea apart.
  8. Teamwork and collaboration: sharing roles and handling disagreement.
  9. Leadership and public speaking: presenting an idea in a confident, clear voice.

The core idea

The most valuable thing a child takes away from this programme is not a project — it is a changed relationship with being wrong. Once they accept that a first attempt is a draft and not a final verdict on their ability, it shows up everywhere: in how they study, in their confidence, and in their willingness to try what they have not yet mastered.

🏫 How we teach it at the Sheikh Zayed studio

Entrepreneurship here is not delivered as a lecture. Each lesson runs 40 to 45 minutes, with an average of only six students per class, four lessons a week and 140 lessons across the academic year. The small group is deliberate: every child has to present their own idea, not watch someone else present. This strand works alongside the other four CURIOOkids pillars — English, technology, and creative design — because a single project needs all of them.
